Talking to younger you with ai and deepfakes

Deepfakes create convincing visuals of people doing and saying things that never took place in real life. Facial filters are the most popular and they are dramatically better than they were 5 years ago. The future of this technology will continue improving and integrating with other technology. As generative Ai improves, it’s reasonable to assume that we will have conversations with a digital face in real time. https://youtu.be/SHSmo72oVao?t=191

You can have a conversation with anyone, and if you upload your own data you could communicate with a relative. You just need images of their face which you likely have in your phone, and voice recordings which you could obtain through a conversation, in-person or not. Let Ai listen to all your calls and run through your texts to allow it to gather information about how your relative communicates. Now you can practice asking a parent for a favor or speak with a relative after they pass away. And your great great great grandchildren will be able to speak with you.

When we create mimicries of ourselves we can have conversations with ourselves. A 70 year old could reflect on their life by speaking to their younger selves at 10, 30, 50, and so on. A potentially powerful tool in getting behavioral therapy patients to be more introspective, and the therapist could spend more time with the patient’s mimic to understand them better. Just as designers will be able to do with the people they design for.

Regulations are needed for this to work and further research on how people react to this behavior over time is needed, too. The technology is in it’s infancy and there are unknowns. And when there are unknowns there is fear because people are skeptical creatures. As this technology continues to develop, we will see even more innovative and creative uses for it.
