Anyone can learn to draw, use Solidworks or create beautiful presentations.
The greatest designers I've had the privilege of meeting all have a deep sense of curiosity for the world and for others who share the same sense of curiosity.
If you're a diehard football fan, you probably keep up with news surrounding players and coaches. You might investigate your favorite team's strategy, pay attention to player's mindsets and know about the history of great players and teams. That doesn't feel like work because you genuinely enjoy knowing more about football.
The same train of thought applies to designers who love design.
