Filled with negative space

A stop sign is filled with negative space but not a centimeter is wasted. The red Diamond Grade Reflective Sheeting (DG3) is a design element.

Empty space is vacancy. Where nothing of value is added because there is an absence of something useful.

Universal remotes are notoriously a maximalist design. It takes time to familiarize yourself with rows of numbers, direct access buttons, menu navigation and more.

Roku remotes, designed by Bould Design, are minimalist. They use negative space more than most other remotes, despite being half their size. They’re easy to figure out quickly because they don’t rely on a noisy variety of color and shapes.

Negative space elevates positive space.

Give it room, let it breathe.
